Important Bottle Feeding Tips:

Always check the temperature of the milk before feeding by shaking a little milk from the teat onto the inside of the wrist – it should feel warm, not hot

Warm up with a bottle warmer or by putting the bottle in a cup or bowl of hot water – don’t microwave.

Holding, cuddling and talking to the infant while feeding and responding to infant cues – parent–infant contact is extremely important

Don’t leave your baby to feed on their own (i.e. with the bottle propped) – the milk may flow too quickly and cause the infant to splutter or choke

Don’t leave bottles in the cot overnight with the baby: increases risk of choking, ear infection and dental cavities.
